Design for investment - IPM Group backs Hilo Ev.

Over the past 2 years Studio17 has been working closely with Hilo Ev, a disruptive micromobility startup set to redefine safety in the sector.

We’ve all seen the headlines - eScooters involved in serious accidents with pedestrians and cars, and rental scooters dumped all over our cities. Hilo Ev is set to turn that on it’s head - by launching the world’s safest, privately owned eScooter. With the impeding eScooter legalisation in the UK, Studio17 and Hilo Ev have been strategically working on a new type of electric scooter, which puts safety and responsibility at the heart of its design.

Like all startups, Studio17 recognised the importance of running a lean programme, and developing a minimum viable product (MVP) prototype to demonstrate key safety innovations. With patents filled, and conversations with key stakeholders well underway, Hilo Ev was able to attract Slovakian private equity group IPM to invest in this exciting new product in a rapidly growing sector.

IPM Group’s existing investments into ‘Inobat’, an innovative battery technology company, has resulted in an MOU between the two companies, with Inot set to provide battery cells to Hilo’s electric scooter.

We continue to work on the project, with engineering, prototyping and manufacturing support from our Cambridge innovation hub.. Watch this space!
