FAQs

  • You can take an idea, a sketch, or a technical drawing to a product manufacturer, or ‘factory’, and they will ofcourse help you produce a product, that can be made by them.

Remember though, a manufacturer wants to win your business, and once you have agreed on a design, and an initial order, will you have complete confidence that it will resonate enough with your target customers, that they will buy it? Is your business strategy sound, your route to market correct, and you have enough margin to scale?

Is you product environmental, does it meet any directives, and is your intellectual property protected if appropriate?

As consultants, we’re here to answer these and many more, in the early stages of a design programme, before costly mistakes are made.

Often, you only get one opportunity - so it pays to get it right.

As we work on such diverse projects, with different skill sets and time investment required, it can vary greatly from product to product.

We always recommend speaking to us about your business, your project and your requirements, so we can provide a programme, cost and timescales tailored to you.

  • The simple answer is it depends on the product and the business.

Idea’s must be novel enough to warrant a patent application, and even then, you must be sure there is a clear business case for pursuing a patent, as they’re often expensive to see through to grant status.

In some cases, they’re essential to protect a high-value, novel idea, and to build value in a business. However, sometimes it’s more appropriate to be first-to-market, build brand recognition, and stay ahead of copy-cats through constant innovation.

Also, consider other, more cost-effective means of protection, like design registration, to protect the aesthetics of a product.

As part of our process of product and business consultancy, we’re here to guide you through.
