In 2020 Studio17 began a collaboration with Start-up Hilo EV, with the ambition to develop a new form of electric scooter. Whilst there are numerous existing e-scooters currently available, Studio17 felt there was a huge opportunity, to develop a product that was far more considered in design and with a greater emphasis on safety.

Hilo set out to develop a product that will change the public opinion on electric scooters.

A full perimeter “IRIS” lighting system gives the e-Scooter a larger presence, advanced indication and hazard alerts. The integration of AI technology and smart cameras react to the environment that surrounds them. This improves safety for riders, but also other road users and pedestrians.

An intuitive folding design enables users to effortlessly fold the scooter into a compact, transport friendly size, helping to integrate the product into their lives. The large front wheel and ride geometry give greater stability, whilst delivering excellent damping, grip and handling.   

Studio17 worked with Hilo’s mechanical engineers to develop a fully functioning concept prototype. The product was launched at Micromobility Europe, Amsterdam in June 2023.

Alongside the product design, the branding and website of the company was developed to aid the launch of the company to the world.

The vehicle has already won several international awards and Hilo are now looking to take the e-Scooter forward to pre-production.
