Ottico introduces a blanket of colour as a stark visual metaphor for the difference in your weight from the previously stored data. It is a simplification in the process of keeping track of your weight – glowing entirely red, green or blue as a clear visual indicator and incentive, rather than logging and comparing data – giving a quick ‘good or bad’ in seconds.

The scales have multiple user options, measuring both the weight and body fat content via its glass-mounted electrodes. These pass a minute electrical current through bare feet, using the speed the current passes through to measure the amount of conductive muscle tissue, and less conductive fat tissue.

Its compact dimensions but large screen makes it both easy to use and simple to store away, with the inset glass being devoid of sharp edges. thus protected from damage.

An even glow is achieved by sandwiching a light diffusion panel, powered by RGB LEDs, beneath the toughened glass, so that it can be seen even when stood on.

A plastic bezel frames the toughened glass, upon which the steel electrodes sit. It gives a quality of depth and substance to the product, whilst celebrating the natural green hue of glass.  Tapered, curved edges improve the feel of the product both under foot and in the hand, whilst on-glass touch sensitive controls underscore the air of solidity.

Launched in 2013 and sold in Japan.
